Kresiah Mukwazhi was born in 1992 in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she currently lives and works. She received her introduction to visual arts and photography at the Zimbabwean National Gallery School of Visual Art and Design in Harare, Zimbabwe, and the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In 2019, Mukwazhi was a resident artist at the Nafasi Art Space, which culminated in an artist talk in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She was also a resident at Katutura Art Centre in Windhoek, Namibia, supported by ANT Mobility Grant, Pro Helvetia. She has participated in various symposiums, notably – Live Art Workshop at the Institute of Creative Arts at the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2019; Radical Histories II at Katutura Art Centre in Windhoek, Namibia; and Activists Jam Session, supported by ActionAid International, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, both in 2018.
Mukwazhi’s work has been included in numerous group exhibitions which include: Materiality at the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2020; African Textures at Osart Gallery in Milan, Italy in 2020; Five Bhobh – Painting at the End of an Era, which featured work by twenty-nine artists from Zimbabwe, at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, South Africa in 2019/2018; Legitimate Expectations at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2018; PARA_OTHER – Chale Wote Street Festival in Accra, Ghana in 2018; and My Private Moments at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in 2016.
Mukwazhi presented her solo exhibition, Bedroom Interview at SMAC Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2018.
