Born in 1993 in Cape Town, South Africa, Michaela Younge graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, in 2015 and continues to live and work in central Cape Town.
Younge was awarded the Tomorrows/Today prize for her solo booth in the Tomorrows/Today Section, curated by Mariella Franzoni, at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in 2022. In 2024, Younge presented A Tight Squeeze, a solo show of new work at SMAC Plus Projects, in Cape Town, South Africa, and was the first participant in SMAC Gallery’s Focus On programme, created to deepen the engagement with the artist and their practice. She presented Gossip From The Palace at SMAC Gallery in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2021. In 2020, Younge exhibited a body of work as part of SMAC’s Artist Room series in Cape Town, South Africa, and produced Everything Must Go, an immersive virtual experience, in collaboration with The Plot Gallery, as part of the virtual edition of FNB Art Joburg. In 2019, Younge presented her solo exhibition, Nothing Bad, at SMITH in Cape Town, South Africa, and It's Low Tide and I’m
Scraping the Rocks at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London.
In 2025, Younge forms part of a two-woman booth alongside South African multi- disciplinary artist, Frances Goodman, at Art Brussels in Brussels, Belgium. Selected group exhibitions and presentations include Gather II - ways of working with textile continued… at SMAC Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2024; Inner Landscapes at Bloom Galerie in Geneva, Switzerland in 2022; Everything must go at The Plot Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2021; Toll Gate at the Silo District in Cape Town, South Africa in 2020; and Rendezvous and Close Encounters at SMITH in Cape Town, South Africa, both in 2018.
Younge’s work is included in the Pérez Collection in Miami, USA; the Sovereign Art Collection in Hong Kong; the Leridon Collection in Paris, France the X Museum Collection in Beijing, China.
